ABOUT THE AUTHOR
PAUL HESS
Paramedic, Storyteller, and One of the Helpers
Paul Hess gave thirty-five years of his life to the streets of Toronto as a paramedic. He joined when the service was still being built, working alongside older men who had learned their medicine in the war. He stayed through the amalgamation, through SARS, through the AIDS years, and through more night shifts than he cares to count.
With his longtime partner Collins, Paul treated and transported over twenty-five thousand people. He has carried patients down seventeen flights of stairs in the dark, delivered babies, talked people away from the edge, and laughed at three in the morning because laughing was the only thing left to do.
Away from the job, Paul is a husband, father and grandfather with a soft spot for a good story and a strong opinion about most things. This is his first book.
